National (HRO) Radio Company and Demonstration

On March 7th, Steve (G4HFT) gave a talk on "The Story of the National Radio Company." This covered the whole history of the company, from it's days as a supplier of asbestos based material for the power generation industry, though its days as a toy manufacturer, to the famous days of the HRO receiver.

Steve's talk can be viewed by clicking here.

Two weeks later, Steve brought his HRO500 into the club. As had been agreed, Brian (G4CIB) also brought in a wartime HRO-5 and these sets were set up side-by-side on the workbench. Each of the owners gave a demonstration of their set and then the two sets were tuned to the same stations on the 80m band. The results were interesting and they showed just how good the HRO range was, although Brian did say that the performance of his wartime set does fall off above 40m. However, I suppost that this is only to be expected.
