Foundation:
The foundation programme consists of ten theory modules and seven practical tasks.

We recommend that students allow at least six weeks to complete this syllabus.
Practical Tasks
In addition to passing an examination on the theory of these items, students must also demonstrate:
Connecting transmitters/receivers, ATUs and power supplies
Holding an HF SSB contact
Holding a VHF FM contact
Adjusting an aerial
Sending and Receiving Morse Code
You can use our informal club meetings to learn Morse and to practice using the club's equipment to make HF and VHF contacts.
Prerequisites
There are no formal prerequisites but an interest in Amateur Radio and a willingness to learn are both essential.

Intermediate:
The intermediate programme consists of eight theory modules and seven practical tasks.

2. Nature of Amateur Radio, Licence Conditions
3. Technical Basics
4. Transmitters and Receivers, Feeders and Antennas
5. Propagation, EMC
6. Operating Practices and Procedures
7. Course Review, Demonstration of Completed Projects
8. Examination
We recommend that students allow at least ten weeks to complete this syllabus.
Practical Tasks
A major part of the Intermediate licence program is the practical element. You are required to:
1. construct your own simple DC circuit
2. measure voltages, currents and resistance (equipment provided)
3. demonstrate the operation of diodes and transistors (equipment provided)
4. make your own BNC to PL259 adaptor cable
5. make your own 13A to IEC mains cable
6. calibrate a Variable Frequency Oscillator (provided)
7. build your own radio related project
Clearly, the major part of this is to build the project. You can choose your own project, which can be from a kit or just from a design. A significant part of the project and all of the other practical tasks must be completed at the club so that it can be shown to be your own work.
